French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian stressed on Wednesday that his visit to Algeria aims to enhance trust between the two countries under the full sovereignty of each country.
Le Drian said, I was honored to meet Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and it was important for me to come to Algeria on a working visit.
He stressed that Algeria and France have deep ties that are energized by the human relations between the two countries.
He stated that he conveyed to the Algerian president Paris’ desire to work to thaw the ice and the misunderstanding between the two countries.
The French diplomat stated that during his conversation with the Algerian president, focus was placed on cooperation translated by the launch of an actual dialogue as partners in files related to the security of the two countries.
The French minister stated that he hopes that the dialogue we started today will contribute to the return of political relations between the two countries’ governments at the beginning of the New Year, away from the differences of the past.
He also stated that he spoke with President Tebboune about the situation in Mali and assured him that Algeria plays an important role in the file of financial reconciliation.
He added that he salutes Algeria’s commitment to laying the foundations for reconciliation in Mali and hopes that this important Algerian role will continue.
He stressed that Algeria and France are facing major challenges regionally and internationally regarding terrorism in the Sahel, illegal immigration and economic issues.
On Wednesday, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune received Jean-Yves Le Drian, who is on a working visit to Algeria.
The French Foreign Minister visited Algeria on Wednesday in an initiative to “revive” the French-Algerian relationship, which has been tense for months.
And the French news agency reported that, after previous signs of a breakthrough in the diplomatic crisis between Algeria and Paris, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian arrived in Algeria on Wednesday on a visit aimed at “reviving the tense French-Algerian relationship” for months.
“It is a working visit, an evaluation, and to revive relations,” the ministry said.
Algerian state television indicated that the French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean-Yves Le Drian, is visiting Algeria as part of a work and assessment of bilateral relations.

The visit comes as relations between the two countries have deteriorated greatly in recent months.
In mid-November, Le Drian called for a “confident” and “ambitious partnership” with Algeria that goes beyond the “wounds” of memory that can “sometimes reappear”.
