Next Tuesday, Galala University will host the activities of the first regional forum for open science in the Arab region, in the presence of Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Chairman of the Egyptian National Committee for UNESCO, Dr. Salem bin Muhammad Al Malik, Director General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), and Dr. Ghaith Fariz, Director of the UNESCO Regional Office for Science in the Arab States and Director of the Organization’s Office in Cairo, with the participation of key representatives from Arab delegations, delegates of the Arab National Committees for UNESCO, scientists, researchers, academics, software developers, policy makers, youth representatives, publishers, representatives of civil society and the private sector to provide effective illustrative practices and experiences in addition to initiatives Successful in the field of open science.
The forum will witness a series of dialogue sessions and discussions; To identify common challenges, share best practices, and develop practical measurement tools for the success of the Open Science project in the Arab countries. These sessions will discuss a range of issues related to open science, including during the first day of the forum an analysis of the current status of open science, its main pillars, and its activation in the Arab region, in addition to To develop policies and strategies that support open science in Egypt, and the challenges facing the application and use of open science when setting policies in the Arab world.
While the second day of the forum will witness sessions on open science and its sustainability in the Arab region, recommendations to enhance the role of open science, support open science by using electronic technological laboratories, and a session on the Egyptian Knowledge Bank initiative and its role in open access to data.
Dr. Ghada Abdel Bary, Secretary-General of the Egyptian National Committee for Education, Science and Culture, explained that the forum’s activities will witness the participation of a number of specialists in the field of open science in the Arab region. To deliberate and discuss the most successful ways to advance the open science agenda and to serve the goals of sustainable human development in the Arab region.
Dr. Ashraf Haidar, President of Galala University, welcomed the hosting of the forum at the university. He also indicated that a field tour was organized for the forum’s guests to all facilities of the University of Galala.
For his part, Dr. Adel Abdel Ghaffar, Media Adviser and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, stated that the forum will witness the presence of a group of members of the academic community and leaders of the ministry, pointing out that journalists and editors of higher education and scientific research are invited to attend the forum’s activities and its media coverage.
