During a procedure in mid-April, investigators searched seven facilities in Germany and arrested four people, including three administrators in Westown.
According to BKA, BOYSTOWN has been around since at least June 2019. Members around the world have used the site to share child pornography in chats, even through voice services. The photos and videos shown were mainly related to child abuse.
“Among the photos and videos that have been shared are recordings of the most serious violations of young children,” Reuters quoted the German prosecutor’s office as saying.
The campaign against this criminal network was preceded by several months of investigation and preparation by a task force initiated by Germany. Its activities were coordinated by Europol and involved the relevant authorities in the Netherlands, Sweden, Australia, Canada and the United States of America.
Suspicious Germans Arrested
The operation focused on four German citizens between the ages of 40 and 64, three of whom had served as administrators of the platform. Police arrested three policemen in Germany and a fourth long-time living in South America, and police detained him in Paraguay.
Oldest of the already accused quartet, a 64-year-old man arrested in Hamburg, registered on BOYSTOWN in July 2019. He has gradually become one of the most active members and is now suspected of having published more than 3,500 contributions. The other defendants are a 40-year-old man from Paderborn in western Germany, a 49-year-old man from Munich and a 58-year-old man from northern Germany who has lived in South America for several years.
