Google announced on Wednesday that any subscriber to its Google One cloud storage service will now get a VPN service.
Before now, the American technology giant provided the VPN service to subscribers of Premium plans (with a capacity of 2 terabytes and above), and now the service is available for all (Google One) plans.
And Google said in a post on its blog: “All (Google One) plans already come with a large amount of storage space to safely back up your files, photos, and videos.”
And the company added: “With the aim of obtaining additional layers of security (and peace of mind), we are now expanding the VPN service from (Google One) to include all plans, and we offer the dark web report in the United States to help you better monitor your personal information.”
And Google stated that the VPN service from (Google One) adds more protection to your activity on the Internet, regardless of the applications or browsers you use, as it protects it from hackers or network operators by hiding your IP address.
Without VPNs, the websites and apps you visit could use your IP address to track your activity or determine your location. In addition, Google said it takes several steps to ensure that no one can associate your network traffic with your identity.
Starting today, and over the next few weeks, the company will expand its VPN reach to all Google One plans, including the Basic plan, which starts at $1.99 per month.
The company said that the VPN service will be available in 22 countries across Android, (iOS), Windows, and Mac devices. Users can also share the VPN service with up to five others if they subscribe to a single (Google One) plan.
In addition to expanding the VPN service, Google announced the availability of the dark web report of the (Google One) service for users in the United States.
The company noted that online identity fraud, which takes advantage of information stolen through data breaches, is a growing problem affecting millions of people each year. Much of this stolen information can be found on the dark web, an inaccessible part of the Internet that requires a specialized browser to access and is not indexed by search engines. So how do you know if your information has been found on the dark web where it might be at risk?
The company said: “The dark web report in (Google One) helps you scan the dark web for your personal information, such as: your name, address, email, phone number, and social security number, and it will notify you if it is found.”
In addition to showing results corresponding to the personal information users add to their monitoring profile, the dark web report will also show them other relevant information that can be found in these data breaches.
