Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, reviewed a report submitted by Dr. Mohamed Zahran, Chairman of the National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences, on the celebration activities organized by the Authority in cooperation with Ain Shams University; On the occasion of the graduation of the third batch of the professional diploma specialized in remote sensing and geographic information systems, in the presence of Dr. Mahmoud El-Matini, President of Ain Shams University, Dr. Ayman Saleh, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, Dr. Ghada Atta Youssef and Dr. Rasha Hamed, diploma coordinators from the university and the authority, and a number of From faculty members, representatives of the Ministries of Health and Agriculture, and GIS companies.
For his part, Dr. Mohamed Zahran stressed that this diploma is a successful model for constructive and fruitful cooperation between the academic side represented by Ain Shams University, and the research side represented by the National Authority for Remote Sensing; With the aim of graduating specialists, whether they are university graduates or research centers in the fields of remote sensing and geographic information systems; In order to achieve the sustainable development goals of the Egyptian state according to its vision (2030).
Zahran added that the professional diploma in remote sensing is unique in that it contains an integrated scientific curriculum that includes the theoretical and scientific aspects of geographic information systems. The diploma provides training in scientific and applied skills for graduates of different universities and colleges in the topics of study. This enhances the job opportunities available to them, especially with the increase in demand for specialists and professionals in this field all over the world.
For his part, Dr. Mahmoud El-Matini, President of Ain Shams University, indicated that the diploma is receiving great attention from the university’s faculties; Because it is related to its specializations, such as: medicine, agriculture, computers and information, engineering, education, and literature, noting that the professional diploma provides solutions to many problems in Egypt, such as: cultivating arid areas, combating desertification, and floods, along with a number of societal problems, and other fields. They are in the sustainable development goals, pointing to the importance of linking the university’s scientific research strategy with the sustainable development goals of Egypt.
He also praised Dr. Ayman Saleh, in cooperation with the National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences, as an example to follow in institutional cooperation, noting that there will be cooperation in the future with the authority in the areas of virtual laboratories, as well as the establishment of new diplomas that are unique in their specialization.
It is worth noting that the graduation ceremony witnessed the discussion of two research projects on “Creating a health risk map for the assembly area at Ain Shams University, using GIS and remote sensing techniques”, and “Creating a model for digital transformation of agricultural data (spatial electronic platform for Salhia Farm).”
The judging committee for the graduation projects consisted of Dr. Abdel Aziz Bilal, Head of the Agricultural Applications, Soil and Marine Sciences Division at the National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences, Dr. Karim Morcos, Head of the Geology Department at the Faculty of Science at Ain Shams University, and Dr. Hoda Mohamed, Assistant Professor of Geriatrics and Science Al-Amar, and the medical director of Ain Shams University Electronic Hospital.
On the sidelines of the ceremony, Dr. Mahmoud Al-Matini, head of the National Authority for Remote Sensing, honored him with the university shield, stressing the continuation of the fruitful cooperation between the two sides, and thanking the young researchers for their distinguished projects.
