Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has praised Cristiano Ronaldo as a “scoring machine” in the Portuguese player’s first gesture after his decision to disdain City’s bid and return to United.
“I did not watch the United match (against Atalanta),” Guardiola said in comments highlighted by the British newspaper “Mirror”. I will analyze it to know its strengths and weaknesses.”
“We saw him (United) last season, they have one of the best players in history, a man who could be a scoring machine.”
Ronaldo was the best player in Manchester United since his return to “Old Trafford”, scoring nine goals in just 10 matches so far this season.
Guardiola added: “People were upset because I said the day before yesterday that the Club Brugge match in the Champions League is more important than the match against Manchester United.”
And he concluded: “And now the Manchester United match remains the most important of all, after we achieved a great victory over Club Brugge with a wonderful and distinctive performance, which catapulted us to the top of the group.”
City took Group A lead with nine points, one point ahead of Paris Saint-Germain, and needed one point to cross the group stage for the ninth time in a row.
Manchester United’s last game before the international break in November will be a big one, with eternal rivals Manchester City visiting Old Trafford next Saturday.
This will be the first Manchester derby to be played in front of an audience since March 2020.
