With the patronage of Dr. Sheikh Rana Bint Isa bin Daij Al Khalifa, General Secretary of the Council for Higher Education and Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Council of Higher Education, and the Ambassador of the United Kingdom, Mr. Leaders of higher education institutions in the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Kingdom of Bahrain have launched a training program for the international program “Climate Champions Research”. For undergraduate students in public and private higher education institutions in collaboration with the British Council; Aiming to enhance students ’research skills in solving environmental and climate challenges and problems in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The event will take place from October 23 to 28, 2021 AD at the Wyndham Grand Hotel in the Gulf of Bahrain, where Dan Boyden and Dan Smith from the United Kingdom, who have extensive experience in climate, environmental and scientific research.
In his speech, Dr. Sheikh Rana thanked Bint Isa bin Daij Al Khalifa for his contribution to the implementation of this training program for the British Embassy and the British Council. The Secretary-General noted the special status of the training program and its participants, as it includes explanations of the ecosystem, nature, cultural identity and how our identities form our relationship with nature and promote innovation in climate action. It is attended by academic staff and 50 undergraduate students from various disciplines in higher education institutions in the Kingdom.
The Secretary-General added that the activities of the project will continue throughout the first semester of the 2021/2022 AD academic year, as participants will be divided into groups after attending these workshops, each group preparing a research with a community project on the environmental and climatic conditions of one of the ecological and climate issues of the Kingdom of Bahrain. For his part, the British Ambassador to the Kingdom of Bahrain, His Excellency Mr. Roddy Drummond stressed his pride in working with the Council for Higher Education and the importance of continuing the partnership with the British Council. In turn, Dr. Farzana Al-Maraki, Director of Scientific Research at the General Secretariat of the Council for Higher Education, explained that the project comes under the initiative of the National Strategic Plan for Scientific Research, aimed at raising public awareness. The program aims to promote scientific research at the undergraduate level, especially to serve national research priorities.
