PRAGUE – Prime Minister Andrej Babis (yes) this afternoon received Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic Eduard Heger at Villa Kramac, which is his first foreign trip since taking office. The topic of the prime ministers ’meeting will be the Coronavirus pandemic, cooperation in the economy, defense, energy and the European Union. Even before that, Heger met President Milos Zeman at Lanni’s mansion.
According to previous information, the prime minister’s delegation should also include the head of the Slovak diplomacy, Ivan Korchuk, and the Minister of Health, Vladimir Lingvarsky. The Czech government was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Jan Hamaczek (CSSD) and Minister of Health Peter Arrenberger (for YES).
A Prime Ministerial press conference is scheduled for Straca Academy at 3 PM, after which Heiger will meet Senate Presidents Milos Vesterel (ODS) and House of Representatives Radek Vondrachik (yes).
After the meeting in Lány, the spokesperson for President Jičí Ovčá صرحek stated that the statesmen valued the excellent mutual relations, agreed on the importance of cooperation within the Visegrad Four (V4 – Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland and Hungary) and talked about the economic recovery after the Coronavirus pandemic.
Heiger became Prime Minister of Slovakia at the beginning of April. He replaced Igor Matovi ،, who resigned after a nearly month-long government crisis and is now finance minister. The crisis began with the purchase of a Russian vaccine against covid-19 Sputnik V, and its import was promoted despite a disagreement from part of the coalition, especially Matovic.
Former President of the Slovak Parliament Andrei Danko, who will also be part of Deputy Prime Minister Jan Hamaczyk’s (CSSD) delegation in Moscow, has repeatedly discussed vaccinations. Hamáček wants to negotiate a possible delivery of the Sputnik V vaccine after it has been approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA). Danka said he would meet with Russian Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov.
