After Manchester United announced their new coach, Eric Haag, it was clear that he was looking to bring in some players from his former place where he was so successful. However, a number of recent transfers on the Premier League track cannot be evaluated positively.
The most expensive player to leave the Netherlands for England is Davinson Sanchez, who joined Tottenham in the summer of 2017 for 42 million euros. Colombian rock played almost every game possible in the first season, but then his time on the field began to decline and he was just beginning to realize his potential again under Antonio Conte, who allowed him to hit 32 games.
Sanchez’s move to the Premier League certainly cannot be considered unsuccessful, and of course the problems at the club didn’t help, but he was certainly much more expected than what he has shown so far, a fairly common phenomenon in recent years.
Hakim Ziyech and Donny van de Beek took second and third places. While the first player played 44 games last season, the second played only 21 games, including a few at Everton, where the Red Devils sent him on loan.
However, the Moroccan winger, who was born in Dronten, Netherlands, managed only 8 goals and 6 more assists during this large part of the match. Ziyech could be evaluated very similarly to Sanchez, and he expected much more, and it would likely cost him to relocate.
We can go on with Memphis Depay, Steven Bergwijn or Davy Klaassen, all of the most expensive players who have moved from the Eredivisie to the Premier League, but they haven’t made any impact in the world there.
Of course, this does not diminish the quality of the Dutch Premier League, which has produced many great players for world football. However, recent deals have been mainly beneficial to the seller more than the buyer. Of course we have to take into account the bad period of the clubs themselves led by Everton and Manchester United.

The Hag got a really big deal for Ajax, thanks mainly to the sale of Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt, who together cost more than €170 million. It is the Dutch midfielder who is now under pressure from his former coach at Old Trafford as he tries to take advantage of Barcelona’s poor financial situation.
Manchester United should also strengthen Lisandro Martinez, who should arrange the defense position. Haji Tyrrell Malacia of Feyenoord, who started in both duels against Slavia, secured the left side of the defense.
It can certainly be said that all three signings have the potential to play an important role at Old Trafford in the coming years. But the same was said of Van de Beek or Depay. Here, too, there is no doubt that one player did not succeed.
Among the most expensive transfers from the Eredivisie to the English Premier League, we find a number of unsuccessful players, but Luis Suarez and Ruud van Nistelrooy have kept it all.
