The beauty of Windows is its customizability, and that hasn’t changed with Windows 11. If anything, the operating system now looks better by default. However, the good old Windows customization options are still there, and you can do a few things to customize Windows 11 to suit your style. Here’s how to use themes in Windows 11 for a more personal desktop experience.

Use the Settings app
Windows 11 has customization options available in the Settings app. You can access them by right-clicking on the desktop and clicking Personalize.

Alternatively, open the Settings app via Search, and tap Personalization in the right navigation pane.

If you want to quickly change your theme, tap one of the six quick themes shown at the top to the right. If you want a better look, tap themes. under current topicclick the topic you want to use.

Create a custom theme for Windows 11
You can create a custom theme in Windows 11 if you don’t like the current options. head over to Settings -> Personalization -> themes The page is as described in the last section. click Use a custom theme. If the button is not visible, tap one of the themes below current topic and will appear.

Now you can configure your theme. tap on background Button up first. Select one of the recent photos, or choose a photo of your choice. You can click on the dropdown menu next to Personalize your background to change to a slideshow, which lets you select a folder of images or solid color, which presents you with a color picker. You can also choose the fit for your wallpaper.

Return to the themes screen by clicking the back arrow button in the upper left corner. click the color To configure the main theme colors. There are options for dark or light mode, transparency effects, and accent color settings.

Return to the Themes screen, and tap sounds. The audio selection window will appear. You can click on each entry under it Program events To change the custom sound through the dropdown menu at the bottom sounds. click yes When you finish.

You get a similar setting with the last option back on the Themes screen, mouse pointer. Click it to bring up a file Mouse properties Window. You can select an existing group from the dropdown list below Schemeor make a custom one under adjust or adapt. click yes When you finish.

Back on the Themes screen, tap Memorizesenter a name for the topic, and tap Memorizes. The topic will appear in the list of topics below current topic.

Share a custom theme for Windows 11
Now that you’ve created a custom template, you can share it as well. go to the Settings -> Personalization -> themes. Right-click on your custom theme below current topicand click Save topic to share.

Select a location, type a name and tap Memorizes.

You can find the .deskthemepack file in the saved location to share with others.

Use the control panel
If you want to use Control Panel for Themes, this is still possible in Windows 11. Open Control Panel via Search. click Appearance and Personalization.

You’ll get a theme selection screen, with individual elements like background, color, sounds, and screensaver at the bottom.

You can use File Explorer to find and apply themes on Windows 11 as well. This is also how you can install the previously saved custom theme on a different PC.
Here are the save locations for themes in Windows 11.
- default theme folder – C:\Windows\Resources\Themes
- Installed Themes Folder – %LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Themes
If you want to install a custom theme that you downloaded, go to the save location, usually the Downloads folder, and double-click the .theme file. Windows 11 will open the theme settings and set the theme as the current theme.

Install a new template from the Microsoft Store
You can also get themes from the Microsoft Store. head over to Settings -> Personalization -> themes.

tap on Browse threads button next to Get more themes from the Microsoft Store. The Microsoft Store will open with a set of themes listed.

Click the topic you want, and click Get button He buys Paid themes button.

It will take some time, but the store will download and install the theme. You can then go back to Settings -> Personalization -> themes and click the theme to apply it.

Use a high contrast subject
Windows also includes a couple of high-contrast themes as part of its accessibility settings. to open Settingsand click Accessibility in the right navigation pane.

click Contrast themes in the left pane. There will be a drop down menu that says no onenext to Contrast themes. Click it.

Click the name of the topic you want to apply, then click Progressing.

It will take a few seconds, and Windows will apply the high contrast theme. You can choose no one and click Progressing Again if you want to go back to the last non-high contrast subject that was used.
