Samuel Umtiti, the Barcelona player loaned to Lecce, commented on the wrong translation by the press of his interview with the French channel, “Canal Plus”.
The Spanish press quoted the French player’s statements about his past period with FC Barcelona, and made a mistake while translating his speech, claiming that he said, “I lived four years imprisoned in Barcelona.”
The 29-year-old mocked the newspapers’ mistake in translating his televised speech, in which he did not mention any talk of imprisonment, but rather talked about a period of feeling emotionally depressed due to his loss of confidence.
Umtiti published a story on his official account on the “Instagram” platform, commenting on the wrong translations, in which he wrote: “To all journalists and newspapers if you need translation help, contact me next time, the word “Dépression” in French means depression and “Depresión” in Spanish means frustration. And depression, and it has nothing to do with “prison” or “imprisonment.” Thank you very much!
The 2018 World Cup champion extends his contract with Barcelona until the summer of 2026, and he will return at the end of the season to the Spanish team after the end of his loan period, with his future uncertain.
