I don’t like Simeone’s style with Atletico Madrid

Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp said on Monday that he did not like the style of play of his rival Atletico Madrid, but he could not argue about the results of the Spanish team.
Liverpool, who lost home and away from coach Diego Simeone’s team in the round of 16 in the Champions League last season, will visit Atletico tomorrow, Tuesday, in the group stage.

Klopp, who has criticized Atletico’s defensive and physically demanding style after the previous two defeats, told reporters on Monday that his comments were out of anger and frustration and did not disrespect the Spaniard.

The German coach added: “After the second match I was angry and frustrated because of a lot of things, and things were going wrong in the world at this time. We played against a team full of world class players and they defended with all their might.”

He continued: “Diego Simeone does everything in the right way. He is the champion of Spain and has been working at Atletico for a long time. The players fight with their lives and I respect them.”

“Do I like it? Not much, but that’s because I like a different style of football, and it’s about being successful, and Atletico is definitely successful.”

Klopp confirmed that winning two matches against Simeone’s team this season will likely guarantee qualification for the knockout stages.

Liverpool leads Group B with six points from two matches, two points behind second-placed Atletico, while Porto is third with one point, and Milan is bottom of the standings without a score.

He continued: “If we win the two matches against Atletico, we will probably qualify. We lost two matches the last time, so we will see what happens. I am not so positive that we think we guarantee victory. We did not play well in the previous two matches, but we learned from them.”

He concluded: “Atletico has changed some players, but it is not weaker. We want a positive result and a positive performance.”
