Milan need one point at Sassuolo on Sunday to win their first league title in 11 years, while Inter must win at home against Sampdoria to maintain their faint hopes of winning the title.
However, Inzaghi stressed the importance of Inter winning the Italian Cup and the Super Cup in assessing the team’s season in general.
Inzaghi said in a press conference today, Saturday: “We won two titles and reached the round of 16 in the Champions League, and we are here to compete for the league title in the last round.”
“I can say that the goals have been achieved, even in a difficult year, the team had a great year and I am very happy,” he added.
“It would be great to win the league title as well, but we gave everything and we know we liked our fans.”
He added: “Let’s just look at Sampdoria, he played a great match against Fiorentina (last week), we know that our destiny depends not only on us, but also on Sampdoria. We will face this match very seriously, as always.”
Inzaghi praised Ivan Perisic, whose goals and passes were instrumental in keeping Inter chasing the top, as the coach hopes the veteran Croatian will extend his contract with the club.
He added: “Unless you train a player, you never know how good he is. Perisic was always worth watching when he was a competitive player.”
And Inzaghi continued: “He had an exceptional season, I think he has outdone himself. There will be a meeting with the club soon, and I hope that the end will be happy. He is an important player for Inter in the coming period.”
