James Bond will always be a man

James Bond film producer Barbara Broccoli has expressed her belief that the character “James Bond 007” will always be a man, noting that she is postponing the discussion of who will take the role of actor Daniel Craig, until 2022, stressing in the context that he will be a man.

“James Bond is a male character,” said Barbara, president of film production company Eon Productions, who signs every hiring in the franchise, expressing her hope that there will be many, many films made with him. Women, for women, by women, and around women.

“I don’t think we should take a male character and have a woman portray the character, so I see the character as a male,” Barbara told Britain’s PA News Agency.

Barbara admitted that she has not faced the fact that actor Craig is stepping down, that she is in denial and would like Daniel Craig to continue forever, so she is not considering a replacement, which she will discuss with her half-brother and co-producer, Michael J. Wilson, next year.

When asked if talks about Craig’s successor were imminent, she replied in the negative, saying, “We want to celebrate the wonderful period of Daniel Craig, who gave everything to this character in this franchise for 15 years.” When asked if she would like to see more diversity in character, she said:

“This is difficult, I don’t have a good opinion about it. I think it would be hard for anyone to follow in Daniel’s footsteps for me, and as much as I loved Pierce Brosnan, I was in my early twenties and gave up watching movies quite a bit. And when Daniel came it was a different version of the character I hadn’t seen before,” she said, adding:

Everyone who plays it just needs that charisma and those layers. In turn, the 53-year-old actor had also expressed his belief that “Bond” should remain a man, but stressed in an interview with Radio “Times” that there should be better parts for women and actors of color, asking:

“Why should a woman star in James Bond, when there should be a good Bond role for a woman?” Several actresses have agreed with Daniel that a man should star in Bond, including Halle Berry.
