British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and new German Chancellor Olaf Schulz discussed key issues between the two countries in their first phone call on Wednesday, pledging to work closely on key issues, including security and Britain’s exit from the European Union.
“The Prime Minister congratulated German Chancellor Olaf Schulz on his appointment this evening, and the Prime Minister and Chancellor Schulz emphasized the fundamental value of the relationship between the United Kingdom and Germany, driven by our shared global perspective.”

Johnson & Schultz welcomed the opportunity presented by the President of Germany in 2022 to build on the progress made under the presidency of the United Kingdom in 2022, stressing the importance he attaches to resolving issues arising from the implementation of the Northern Ireland Code. Both leaders agreed on the importance of resolving this issue as soon as possible.
