Serbian Nikola Jokic, the best MVP player in the past two seasons, extended his contract with his current team, the Denver Nuggets, with a record deal in the history of the NBA, worth 264 million euros for a period of five years.
Nuggets highlighted the standard deal among several means with the 27-year-old center player Jokic, at a time when the period of talks with players free of their contracts begins.
As expected, the two parties reached an agreement after Jokic, who was named the league’s best player in May for the second consecutive season, confirmed that he was not interested in leaving his team the day after the Denver Nuggets lost to the Golden State Warriors in the playoffs.
When asked about his position if the Nuggets proposed to him extending his contract, he said: “Of course I will agree because I love this club, and the people that work here.”
He also noted his good relationship with everyone, from the owner to the one in charge of the equipment.
By being named the best player in the league two years in a row, Jokic joined the closed club of legends, such as Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Moses Malone, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Tim Duncan, Canadian Steve Nash, LeBron James, Stephen Curry and Greek Yannis Antetokounmpo, the names that were crowned League except for Nash and Jokic.
The Joker starred remarkably during the past regular season, scoring 27.1 points per game (58.3% of success), in addition to 13.8 rebounds and 7.9 assists.
Chosen at number 41 on Draft in 2014, Jokic has turned into a discreet but irreplaceable superstar in the nuggets ranks.
