The comedian revealed her diagnosis to the public via social media on Monday and said she was undergoing surgery to remove half of her left lung.
“I have to tell you guys something. I have cancer. I’m about to undergo surgery to remove half of my left lung,” this 60-year-old man wrote on Twitter. “Yes, I have lung cancer even though I’ve never smoked!”
Griffin explained how the cancer was “contained” and that her doctors were “very optimistic” about her recovery.
“The doctors are very optimistic because it is the first stage and it is being contained in my left lung. I hope I will not have any chemotherapy or radiation afterwards and should have a normal function with my breathing. I should be up and running as usual in a month or less. It’s been 4 great years, I’m trying to get back to work, making you guys laugh and entertaining, but I’ll be fine,” she said.
The Emmy winner also mentioned how important it is to “stay up-to-date with medical tests” and get vaccinated against COVID-19.
“I was definitely in shock,” she admitted. “I’m still in shock—not in denial—but I’m still in love. Once a day I’d just turn to no one next to me like it and go, ‘Can you believe this?’ Is this a whore or what? “
