Latvia declared a month of closure. Shops, restaurants and schools will be closed

The Latvian government agreed to the strict restrictions at an extraordinary meeting on Monday evening. From October 21 to November 15, a nighttime curfew will also apply from 20:00 to 05:00, according to the Delfi.lv server.

After the fall break, only 1st to 3rd graders will go to school from November 1, while others will learn remotely. Kindergarten must continue to operate. All stores except for those selling essential goods will also be closed.

The restrictions will also affect services: hairdressers, beauty salons and public catering establishments will be closed.

Sports, entertainment and cultural events, including cinemas, theaters and concerts, will be banned. The portal added that the restriction will also apply to people from different homes driving in one car.

Prime Minister Krišjánis Kariňš and Health Minister Daniels Pavluts have apologized to all citizens who have already been vaccinated against covid-19. They admitted that the country’s vaccination process had in fact failed, leading to the lockdown.

The Delfi.lv server added that Pavlots promised that life will return to normal after November 15, but not for those who have not been vaccinated until then, the strict restrictions will continue to apply to them.

In Latvia, the infection is spreading uncontrollably, and there are already more than 1,100 patients with COVID-19 in hospitals. “Our healthcare system is at stake,” the prime minister said.
