Lisa Marie Presley, the singer and the only daughter of rock and roll legend Elvis Presley, died Thursday at the age of 54 after being transferred to a hospital in the Los Angeles area.
“It is with a heavy heart that I must announce the devastating news that my beautiful daughter, Lisa Marie, has passed away,” her mother, Priscilla Presley, said in a statement.
In the statement, she added, “She was the most emotional, strong and loving woman I have ever known. We ask that privacy be respected as we try to deal with this terrible loss.”
Celebrity news website TMZ reported that Lisa Marie was rushed to hospital after suffering a heart attack at her home in the Calabasas suburb of Los Angeles.
Born in 1968, Lisa Marie Presley is the owner of her father’s Graceland mansion in Memphis, a popular tourist attraction. She was nine years old when Elvis died at Graceland in 1977.
She began her music career with her debut album in 2003 entitled (To Home It My Concern) “To Whom It May Concern” and followed it with the album (Now What) in 2005, both of which reached the top ten on the Billboard 200 best-selling albums.
