Maserati has been producing cars with V8 engines since 1959, when the 5000GT was introduced to the world, but every era must come to an end. This year, the company’s long-term agreement with the Ferrari engine supplier will end, so the 3.8-liter unit will disappear from under the hoods of the cars with the trident in front. For the occasion, the automaker has prepared two special models.
The Ghibli 334 Altima sedan and Levante V8 Altima SUV will make their debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, introducing the latest cars with a 572-horsepower engine.
The dynamic duo will be based on the higher versions of the Trofeo and will serve as the epilogue to the more than 100,000 cars Maserati has built with this unit for 64 years.
The automaker says the Levante, Ghibli and Quattroporte models with this engine in the Trofeo version will end up on the production line at the end of this year, with the cars still available for purchase from official dealers next year.
In addition, Maserati already has a potential replacement for the specified engine, but it will be a smaller, but three-liter twin-turbocharged V6 called Nettuno, which, among other things, is also under the hood of the Maserati MC20 super sports car and is in the new GranTurismo. .
