The Meta adds two new fitness-related features to the Meta Quest. The first is Health Connect integration, which means Android users can finally sync their Quest workout data automatically. Perhaps even more exciting for VR fitness buffs, you’ll now be able to pair rate monitors. Bluetooth heart rate monitor and display your stats in real time, reports theverge.
Health Connect is a health API from Google, which allows Android users to share health and fitness data between multiple apps and consolidate this information into one place. The integration means that you can now link your Quest Move VR workouts to Google Fit without having to do anything. Thing.
Meta made available a similar integration with Apple Health for iOS users last year.
To enable Health Connect, users have to click on the settings menu in the Move in VR app, scroll down and switch to “Connect Move to Meta Quest Mobile App”. Connected apps tab, switch to “Health Connect by Android”, and you’ll also be asked to allow the “Active Calorie Burn” and “Exercise” permissions.
And a quick note on health data privacy: Meta says your Move stats are stored locally on your Quest headset and will only be sent to Meta’s servers if you choose to sync your stats with the Meta Quest app, which you’ll need to do in order for the Health Connect integration to work.
Meta also says that the data you choose to share is end-to-end encrypted and will not be used for targeted advertising.
However, whenever you enable these types of APIs, you also agree to a separate set of privacy policies and terms of use, in which case you’ll also agree to the terms of Google Health Connect — as well as any third-party health or fitness app you connect to via Health Connect.
This also relates to heart rate data, if you choose to connect a Bluetooth heart rate monitor, you can see that your heart rate is now a real-time statistic viewable via the Meta Quest Move Overlay along with calories burned and exercise minutes.
And when you pair a compatible heart rate monitor with a Meta Quest Move, your heart rate will be displayed across any game or app in VR, Meta spokesperson Travis Eisman told The Verge: “The developer won’t need to integrate.”
Heart rate integration is a commonly expected feature, and many connected fitness systems include it from the start, and Fitness Plus users can see heart rate data on their Apple Watch overlaid during class from day one.
