Mubarak’s family demands financial compensation from EU (video)

The family of the late Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak has confirmed that it has asked its lawyer to examine all possible legal avenues for seeking compensation against the EU Council.

The family said in a statement that in the past, the EU had no choice but to lift sanctions, as it had done in March 2021, declaring that these control measures had fulfilled their purpose.

“It is difficult to understand how the sanctions imposed by the EU Supreme Court are illegal,” he said.

The report added that Mubarak’s family had received large sums of money from the European Council to recover legal costs.

Prior to this ruling, the UK government had acknowledged that other judgments and rulings of the European Court of Justice in December 2020 and the same judicial procedures against the Mubarak family in Egypt had not complied with the law. Standards required under UK law to impose any restrictions.

After all the allegations against Kamal and his brother Ala were found to be baseless, a final decision was made immediately by the Swiss Federal Attorney’s Office.

In March 2021, the European Union decided to close the file of Egyptian funds transferred to European banks and lift sanctions against nine people: Hosni Mubarak, his wife Susan Saleh Tabed, his two sons Ala and Kamal, their wives Heidi Razak, Khadeeja El-Kamal, ex Tourism Minister Zuhair Karna and former Interior Minister Habib al-Adli and his wife Ilham Sharchar.

Mubarak, who ruled the country for 30 years, was ousted by the Egyptian people in a January 2011 uprising.
