Real Madrid announced that Rafael Nadal, the veteran tennis star, took the starting kick in the team’s match against Espanyol at the Santiago Bernabeu, on Saturday evening, at the Santiago Bernabeu, in the thirty-fourth round of the Spanish League.
Nadal, known for his Real Madrid fans, is taking advantage of his presence in the Spanish capital to compete in the Madrid Open to attend the match from the honor room at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The club said in an official statement: “Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal will kick off today, Saturday, the match between Real Madrid and Espanyol at the Santiago Bernabeu.”
“Nadal, honorary member of Real Madrid since 2011, is the only tennis player in history to win 21 Grand Slam titles after winning the Australian Open last January,” the club statement added.
The Spanish star will be keen to attend the Merenhi celebrations if he wins the title if he manages to score at least a point.
The royal team leads the league standings with 78 points, and needs only one point to officially crown the title, followed by Seville second with 64 points, then Barcelona third with 63 points, and Atletico Madrid fourth with 61 points.
In the event that Real wins the title four rounds before the end of the tournament, he will receive the cup from Rubiales, and he will be able to celebrate with his fans at the Santiago Bernabeu, and later in Cibeles Square.
