The Arab Cinema Center has revealed the nominations for the Critics’ Awards for Arab Films in its sixth edition, which targets Arab films produced in 2021, and a jury consisting of 167 critics from 68 countries participates in evaluating the films. The award winners, at a ceremony to be held within the next edition of the Cannes Film Festival.
Director of Critics’ Awards Deborah Yang said, “It is striking in this year’s nominations that Egyptian films prevail, in addition to the spread of co-production among Arab countries, with a strong presence from Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and other countries. All these films discussed interesting topics, and imposed themselves on the festivals agenda. international over the past year.
Maher Diab and Alaa Karkouti, co-founders of the Arab Cinema Center, say, “It is interesting to see the great diversity of Arab productions this year in terms of film topics and participating countries, in addition to the remarkable female presence in directing, writing and documentaries. The Critics’ Awards for Arab Films were launched in their first edition on the sidelines of the activities of the 70th session of the Cannes Film Festival. 68 countries around the world, which is what happens for the first time in the history of Arab cinema.
