On the Temple Mount, Palestinians again clashed with the Israeli police

Eid prayers were held at the Al-Aqsa Mosque in the Temple Mount because Friday is a holiday in the Islamic world. Attendance at the prayers was intense, as Hamas declared Friday a Day of Rage.

After the noon prayer, hundreds of Palestinian youths began throwing rocks and Molotov cocktails at the police officers. Jerusalem Police Chief Doron Turgmann ordered the police to crack down on the rioters. At the same time, they were instructed to help those believers who had not participated in the conflict to leave the Temple Mount.

Clashes were also reported from Hebron, Nablus, and elsewhere in Jerusalem and the West Bank.

Previous clashes on the Temple Mount were the reason for the outbreak of Hamas’s recent fight with Israel. The occupation police raided Al-Aqsa Mosque on May 7, and clashed with 200 Palestinians and six police officers. In another operation on May 10, the Israelis used tear gas and injured 300 other Palestinians.

Hamas gave Israel an ultimatum to withdraw police forces from the Temple Mount, after which it fired rockets. The fighting ended with a ceasefire in effect beginning Friday at 01:00 PMST in Central Europe. More than 250 people, most of them Palestinians, did not survive the fighting.
