Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping are holding virtual talks to discuss the most pressing bilateral and international issues.
On Wednesday, at the start of the virtual summit meeting, Putin welcomed Xi and was very pleased to see him, and the two presidents waved to each other.
Putin praised the level of relations between Russia and China, describing them as an “example for cooperation between two countries in the 21st century,” and said that the relations between Moscow and Beijing are characterized by “the common desire to make the common border a belt of lasting peace and good neighborliness.”
For his part, the Chinese president expressed his full conviction that the organization of the upcoming Winter Olympics, which will be launched in Beijing next February, will be at the highest level.
Putin looked forward to visiting Beijing in February to meet Xi and attend the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics there, stressing that Russia and China have always supported each other in sports cooperation, including rejecting any attempts to politicize sports.
In turn, Xi noted that China-Russia relations have withstood various challenges and proved to be life-giving.
The Chinese president thanked his Russian counterpart for standing up to attempts to drive a wedge between Beijing and Moscow, expressing his eagerness to meet Putin in February.
The Russian presidency (the Kremlin) previously confirmed that the talks between Putin and Xi today deal with the results of joint work on developing the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries in 2021 and the priorities for cooperation in the coming period, in addition to exchanging views on urgent international and regional files.
