Real Madrid, the Spanish and European champions in football and Chelsea, said on Thursday that Real Madrid had agreed to sign German international defender Antonio Rudiger in a free transfer deal after the expiration of his contract with Chelsea.
Real Madrid announced that he had linked Rudiger with a contract for 4 seasons, and that he would officially present it to the public and the media on June 20.
Rudiger has been a regular for Chelsea since joining from Roma in 2017.
“I am very excited about all the challenges that await me and I look forward to starting my career with this giant club,” said Rudiger, 29, through his account on the social networking site Twitter.
Chelsea described Rudiger as one of the most motivated players to represent the club in recent years.
Rudiger played more than 200 matches in all competitions with Chelsea and won with the London club the Champions League, the European League, the FA Cup, the European Super Cup and the Club World Cup.
Rudiger joined Roma on loan from Stuttgart, where he began his playing career in 2015, before the loan contract was changed to a permanent contract at the end of the season.
He has also played 50 caps for the German national team since his debut with the team in 2014.
