The French national team coach, Herve Renard, considered the friendly confrontation that will bring Al-Akhdar against his counterpart, Croatia, on Wednesday evening, strong, as it brought him together as the runner-up of the previous edition of the World Cup.
Renard confirmed Salman Al-Faraj’s readiness for the Croatia match, indicating that the player is fully prepared to play 90 minutes in the upcoming matches.
Renard called on the Saudi fans to trust the players they know well, pointing out that the motives in the experimental matches differ from the official ones.
The two teams are preparing to start their campaign in the World Cup, with a final friendly confrontation before leaving for the Qatari capital, Doha, in preparation for the tournament that will start next Sunday.
“This is our last match seven days before our first confrontation in the World Cup,” Renard said at the press conference held at Prince Faisal bin Fahd Stadium in the capital, Riyadh. “Playing against Croatia is a good option before the World Cup, they have a great coach.”
Renard continued his talk about the Croatian national team: “He is one of the candidates for the World Cup. They reached the final of the last edition and they have great players, and their coach I respect him a lot, as he has been leading the national team since 2017.”
Renard pointed to the difference between the official and friendly matches, explaining: “In my training career, I played many friendly matches, but the most important are the official matches. Preparatory matches are always different from the official matches, because the circumstances are completely different.”
The Saudi national team coach explained: “Motivation will differ between the Croatia match and the first match in the World Cup, and the players will be ready to give everything they have on November 22.”
With regard to moving the match from Marsool Park Stadium to Prince Faisal bin Fahd Stadium due to the lack of readiness of the “first” ground and changing the match date from one in the afternoon to three in the afternoon, he said: “In football, it must adapt to all circumstances.”
And the Saudi Al-Akhdar coach directed his message to the Saudi sports street before the start of the World Cup: “My main message is trust the players, you know them well, and we know that the competition is great. We have to have confidence and feel it by playing at this level.”
Renard revealed that Fahd Al-Mawlid will be most affected by the decision to exclude him from the World Cup list, adding: “The one who will be affected most is Fahd due to the timing of the exclusion, and I will miss Fahd because he is an important player for the national team and was influential with us in the qualifiers. And we trust the group we have.”
Al-Akhdar coach announced the readiness of all players, including captain Salman Al-Faraj: “We were worried about his injury, but the player is ready to participate against Croatia, and he is the team leader and an important player.” He added: “All players are fully prepared and can play 90 minutes in the upcoming matches.”
Renard concluded: “My message was to the players. It is important that we have a team spirit and give everything we have.”
On Tuesday, the Saudi national team continued its training in its camp, which is currently located in the city of “Riyadh”, in preparation for its friendly match against the Croatian national team tomorrow, Wednesday, within the fourth and final stage of the preparatory program for the Qatar World Cup, which will start on November 20, in the meeting that was supposed to be played. At Marsool Park Stadium, where he was transferred to Al-Malaz Stadium because the first stadium was not ready as a result of some Riyadh season activities being held on it.
The meeting was scheduled to be played at the same time as Saudi Arabia’s first match in the Qatar World Cup 2022, which will be against Argentina, but the team’s statement made it clear that the Saudi and Croatian teams agreed to delay the starting whistle for two hours, in order to play in a less hot atmosphere.
