Former Environment Ministers Jan Dusek and Ladislav Miko will represent the Czech Republic during the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in international negotiations on the environment. It is approved by the government today as an agent. Nitrogen is Deputy Environment Minister Anna Hubashkova (KDU-ČSL), responsible for the agenda on climate protection. Miko is the minister’s advisor.
Dominika Pospíšilová, on behalf of the Ministry of Environment (MoE), told TK that Dusík would be the agent for international negotiations on climate change. Miko will focus on negotiations related to the protection of biodiversity and ecosystems.
According to the Ministry of Environment, many important international events related to environmental protection and climate will be held in the first six months of the Czech presidency. These include the United Nations Climate Conference in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, in November, and the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora. It will also take place in Panama in November.

Nitrogen became Hubáčková’s deputy in early June. In the past, he worked for the United Nations Environment Program or the Arctic Program of the WWF. From November 2009 to March 2010, he served as Minister of the Environment in Jan Fischer’s official government. However, he has worked for the Ministry of Environment since 1998, eg in a legal unit and later as a deputy. He graduated from Charles University Law School, then went to Oxford, where he studied environmental change and management.
Miko is an environmental expert. He also held the position of Environment Minister in the caretaker government Jan Fischer from May to November 2009. In the past, Miko headed the European Commission representation in Slovakia, and also served as Director of the European Commission’s Natural Resources Protection Division.
