New Manchester United coach Eric Ten Hag has confirmed that Cristiano Ronaldo is part of his plans, ending speculation about the Portuguese striker’s future at the Premier League club.

United presented Ten Hag to the media on Monday, and although the coach refused to make grandiose promises, he was clear when asked at his first press conference if Ronaldo was in his plans.

Asked about his thinking about the 37-year-old’s continuation with United, Ten Hag said “Absolutely” and then answered a question about what Ronaldo could offer, saying “Goals”.

Ronaldo scored 24 goals in the English Premier League and the Champions League this season after returning from Juventus, but he was criticized by interim coach Ralph Rangnick for not putting pressure on opponents.

But with former England coach Steve McClaren and former Ajax assistant coach Mitchell van der Gaj appointed to help Ten Hag in his new role, Rangnick will turn to work in an advisory role with the club.

Ten Hag did not want to talk long about this matter and said that this decision was related to the management of the club.

The Dutch coach was careful to make any promises about the time required for United, who finished sixth in the Premier League this season, to return to the title race.

“I’m not thinking about it at the moment,” the former Ajax coach said. “I’m thinking this is a project and it takes time. We want to win every game. We’ll play game by game and see how it goes.”

In an interview with Manchester United TV, Ten Hag called on his players to unite together and “cooperate” if there was a desire to compete for the most prominent titles.

United’s frustrating season ended with a 1-0 loss to Crystal Palace on Sunday amid numerous reports of a split between the club and squad due to a strained relationship between some players and Rangnick.

Ten Hag said he expected the team to take a different approach under his leadership.

“Everywhere I go in my career, I have high demands on my players. I expect them to fight and give 100 percent of their effort,” added the coach, who led Ajax to the league title.

“We must do better and they must cooperate. They must unite to form a team and to fight against the opponent,” he added.

United will play in the European League next season, and will face a difficult challenge to compete in the English Premier League with rivals Manchester City, who won the title by 35 points from its neighbor.
