The Honorary President of the Russian Football Union, Vyacheslav Koloskov, announced yesterday, Monday, that the next executive committee of the organization will most likely take the decision to move from UEFA to the Asian Football Confederation.

“My opinion has not changed these days – I am against leaving UEFA,” Vyacheslav said in an interview with Sputnik. “I gave the reasons, and I would not like to repeat them. I expressed my opinion to the executive committee and there is a feeling that the decision to move to Asia will be taken, all clubs voted.” In the executive committee in favor of the decision, the regional federations remained silent, which can be considered approval, as the marketers explained that in this way it would be possible to keep the financiers.

He added, “Maybe I was the only one who took a different position, and I have been in the football field for 40 years, and I know the level of Asian football and understand that we will not be able to get out of it for a long time, and someone may have reached the same conclusions and may announce them on (tomorrow) Tuesday.” But at the moment it looks like the decision (to move to the AFC) will be made.”

Earlier, the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) and the European Football Association (UEFA) published a joint statement according to which Russian teams and clubs were banned from participating in all international competitions for an indefinite period.

In this regard, the Russian national football team was excluded from participating in official international matches by a decision of the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA).

The Russian national team was unable to participate in the qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup and the European Nations League, and it will also miss the qualifying round for the 2024 European Nations Cup.

The Executive Committee of the Russian Football Union held a meeting last Friday, at which the issue of the Russian Federation’s withdrawal from the European Union and the transition to the Asian Confederation was discussed.

The President of the Russian Football Union, Alexander Dyukov, confirmed that the final decision on the move to the AFC will be taken on December 27.
