The Russian “Zvezda” weekly said that the Russian “S-500, Prometai” is considered a system close to the “S-400, Triumph”, but the first system specializes in air defense.
While the second system specializes primarily in missile shield and space defense, as missiles are very expensive to deal with normal targets. While it is targeting what the “S-400” system cannot target.
For example, the “S-500” missiles can destroy the warheads of ballistic missiles in near space at a distance of 600 km. In order to work outside the Earth’s atmosphere, the S-500 system includes a 60K6 remote detection radar, which can find targets at a distance of 2,000 km, calculate their trajectory and send information about them to friendly anti-missiles.
Among the aircraft that the S-500 could encounter are F-22 and F-35 stealth fighters, B-2 strategic bombers, E-2 radars, and flying tanks that refuel naval aircraft in the air. The distance at which these planes must move away from the Russian air defense systems has increased from 400 km to 600 km.
With regard to the response time on the target, it decreased with the “S-500” from 10 seconds to 3 or 4 seconds.
The “S-500” will be part of the air defense system of Russia, which will protect the airlines at an altitude of 200 km. One of the most important features of the “S-500” is its ability to move quickly, as it can run on its own platform or be quickly transported by rail to any site to be deployed there .
