French striker Anthony Martial has moved from Manchester United to Seville on loan for six months, the two clubs announced yesterday, in an attempt to revive his career.
On the other hand, Sevilla hopes to enhance its attacking capabilities during its competition for the Spanish League title, as it is currently in second place, four points behind Real Madrid.
The 26-year-old had informed his German coach, Ralf Rangnick, of his desire to leave, because he did not get the appropriate opportunity at Old Trafford. Seville managed to outperform Barcelona, who was desperate to sign the player, before he changed his destination to the Andalusian club.
Rangnick then accused the player of refusing to travel to the Aston Villa match early this month, while the player refuted this matter. He appeared as a substitute for the first time under the supervision of Rangnick against West Ham last week and contributed to the winning goal scored by Marcus Rashford, after he was booed by the United fans when he entered.
“He is a great player, one of the best strikers in the Premier League, but we have other players in this position,” Rangnick said on Saturday. “He wants to leave.”
Martial was one of Europe’s most promising young players when United brought him in as a teenager in 2015 from Monaco.
After a promising first season under the guidance of Dutchman Louis van Gaal, the Frenchman struggled to convince Jose Mourinho during two seasons with the red team.
Norwegian coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer brought him back to the fore, and he had a special season in 2020 when he scored 23 goals.
But a strong knee injury kept him away from the second half of last season, so he fell as a substitute behind Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo, Uruguayan Edinson Cavani and young Gaydon Sancho.
He scored an orphan once in 11 games this season, but he could be a great gift for coach Julen Lopetegui’s team if he regains his scoring appetite. And the Andalusian team suffered many injuries in its ranks, including its top scorer last season, Moroccan Youssef Al-Nusairi, who is currently participating with his country in the African Nations Cup.
Seville is also among the candidates for the European League title, “European League”, especially since the final will be held at its Ramon Sanchez Pesjuan stadium in May. Martial also hopes the transfer will boost his hopes of playing for France at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where he will defend his title.
Due to a knee injury, he was absent from the “Rooster” squad that participated in the European Cup last summer, and last November was absent from coach Didier Deschamps’ squad, who has great attacking options with Kylian Mbappe, Karim Benzema and Antoine Griezmann, in addition to Kingsley Coman and Ousmane Dembele.
