The UAE has increased its balance of colored medals in the competitions of the third Gulf Games hosted by Kuwait until the 31st of this month. Athletics, shooting and swimming contributed to raising the UAE’s medals to 14, with three gold, six silver and five bronze, with the possibility of increasing the medals tally in all other competitions in the sports in which the UAE participates. The UAE is represented by 285 male and female athletes in 16 individual and team games. The shooting team continued its brilliance after adding two silvers in the “dirt” in the teams category through Ahmed Yahya, Zaher Al-Ariani and Yahya Al-Muhairi, and the 10-meter air rifle competition by Ibrahim Ali, as part of the shooting competitions hosted by the Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Olympic Shooting Complex. The shooting team came second in “dirt” with 341 dishes, while Kuwait achieved first place with 364 dishes, and the Saudi team ranked third with 310 dishes.
Ahmed Yahya, Dhaher Al-Ariani and Yahya Al-Muhairi, among the best 8 shooters, qualified for the final rounds in the “Trab” competition for the individual category, but they were not lucky to reach the final, while the first three places were crowned by Kuwait’s shooters in the singles, namely Nasser, the gold winner, runner-up Talal Al-Rashidi and the third, Abdul Rahman Al-Faihhan.
Ibrahim Ali won the second place in the 10m air rifle competition, after qualifying for the final confrontation that brought him together with Omani Salem Al-Naabi, the gold winner, while Omani Issam Al-Balushi achieved third place.
In athletics, yesterday, the team’s players won the silver medal in the relay race (400×4), which included Mahra Abdel Rahim, Fatima Al Balushi and Raqia Al Marzouki, and Wedad Rubari won bronze by knocking down the hammer.
Before that, Latifa Al Kaabi had won the triple jump gold after she was withdrawn from the Bahraini jumper due to an administrative violation by the latter in entering the competition. In the women’s 400-meter hurdles, Mahra Abdel Rahim took fourth place, clocking 1.16.68 minutes.
Mayouf Hassan finished eighth in the 800m race, recording 1.55.78 minutes, while his colleague Khaled Al-Badwawi finished sixth in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 9.45.68 minutes, and the injury prevented Ahmed Ali from participating in the discus competition within the second day. The medals were distributed in three sports: athletics, shooting and swimming, where Fatima Al Hosani won the gold in discus throw, in addition to the shot put bronze. The women’s relay team, consisting of Latifa Al Kaabi, Abeer Al Balushi, Fatima Al Balushi and Mahra Abdul Rahim, won the bronze in the 100×4 metres.
In swimming, Yousef Al-Matrooshi won the gold medal in the 200-meter freestyle swimming with a time of 1:52.95 minutes, and Salem Ghaleb added silver in the 200-meter butterfly competition with a time of 2:06.97 minutes, and shooting achieved the silver medal by Ahmed Abdullah Al-Amiri in the 10-meter air pistol competition with a score of 245.3 points.
The basketball team defeated the Saudi “Green”
The basketball team achieved an important victory over its Saudi counterpart (63-67) in its second match, after defeating Bahrain in the first with a score of 71-66, leaving it two matches with Qatar and Kuwait, where the first four teams advance to the semi-finals. The first of the group meets the fourth of the group, the second of the group meets the third of the group, and the winners play for the final match, while the losers play for the third and fourth places.

■■ Saif bin Fattis and Obaid bin Dhawi, players of the shooting team, will participate in the skeet competitions. Ahmed Al-Amiri, Amin Muthanna, and Muhammad Saleh will also participate in the 10m air pistol teams competition.
