Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, who has been appointed to chair the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, presented Egypt’s vision and goals to British Crown Prince Charles, Prince of Wales, over the phone. The Conference and Summit of World Leaders will be held in Egypt in November 2022, within the framework of consultations with all countries and on preparations for the next session of the Conference.
This comes in a statement issued today by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry’s Spokesperson’s Office, a copy of which was obtained by the German News Agency (dpa).
According to Ambassador Ahmed Hafeez, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Shoukry spoke during a telephone conversation with Prince Charles about Egyptian efforts in the framework of preparations to preside over the conference. To comply with the Paris Agreement and raise the ambition of their climate action in all its components, including support and financing for developing countries in the areas of reducing emissions, adapting to the negative effects of climate change and building their resilience.
In this context, Minister Shogri appreciated the role played by the United Kingdom in the 26th session of the Conference of the Parties, and in particular the efforts made by Prince Charles to support and promote global climate action, the spokesperson added. from the private sector and non-governmental organizations.
The Foreign Minister specifically mentioned the Sustainable Markets Initiative launched by Prince Charles, which includes several key international organisations.
During the call, the Foreign Minister also affirmed Egypt’s willingness to work with Prince Charles in the coming period to enhance the private sector’s contribution to the global effort to address climate change by mobilizing support for the various sectoral initiatives Egypt is launching. Mobilizing broad participation of all governmental and non-governmental parties to participate in and during the conference, its activities, as well as actively participating in the different key days included in the conference.
The spokesman concluded his statement by referring to the Foreign Minister’s expression of Prince Charles of Egypt’s desire to attend the World Leaders Summit.
