Škoda Auto has resumed production. Not complete yet

“I start the shift from Monday, but someone goes to work at night from Sunday to Monday. So far, they told us we will go until December, but not all. The pace of work will probably be slower, the lines will run slower than usual,” said a worker. Cars from the Brava bodywork workshop.

The company’s management confirmed that production had resumed since November 1, but the automaker did not provide further details on specific volumes and conditions.

“Most of Skoda Auto’s production facilities will resume production after a two-week break on Sunday, that is, today, starting at 22:00 at night,” said Camilla Biddle, a spokeswoman for the automaker, on Sunday.

250 thousand cars less

The optimum production capacity is 2,500 cars per day at the Mladá Boleslav plant and another 1,200 per day at the plant in Kvasini, East Bohemia. However, due to the long-standing shortage of parts, a noticeably smaller amount is produced. Recently, the company’s management stated that almost 250 thousand cars will be produced this year less than planned. In the years before the pandemic, production was more than 1.2 million vehicles annually.

In the past two weeks, the automaker has halted most of its operations in Mladá Boleslav and its gearbox plant in Vrchlabi. Only one of the two production lines of the Kodiaq and Karoq models remained in Kvasiny. The cars that were in work and for which the chips were imported were also completed.

However, importing chips from Asian countries remains a problem, so in the coming weeks, the pace and scale of production will adjust to the number of chips that will be available. Two weeks ago, the automaker acknowledged the possibility of frequent outages. They expect the situation to improve in the second half of next year.
