“Space” presents its annual briefing to the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs

The National Space Science Authority has received an invitation to participate in the periodic meetings of the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space on the Long-term Sustainability of Outer Space Activities held by the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), tentatively scheduled to be held from 6 to 17 February 2023 , Of which the Kingdom of Bahrain is one of its members. In preparation for the meeting, the member states were asked to prepare a comprehensive report that includes the experiences of the committee member states in the field of space, to enhance international cooperation, share information, and raise the level of scientific and societal awareness. This report will be used to shape the general direction for the peaceful use of outer space and to ensure the long-term sustainability and promotion of outer space activities, in the international sense set out in the guidelines adopted by the Office.

The Executive Management, headed by His Excellency Dr. Muhammad Ibrahim Al-Asiri – CEO of the National Space Science Authority – presented the annual report that reviews the Kingdom’s efforts in the space sector and its operational plans for the peaceful use of this sector during the year 2022, and the future projects and plans of the Authority that aim to establish a sustainable space sector in The kingdom.

The report included several axes, firstly, the completed projects and those under implementation in the field of building and launching satellites, designing, implementing and launching payloads, and in the field of remote sensing and space data analysis to achieve the goals of comprehensive and sustainable development, and secondly, the authority’s efforts in building national capabilities in the space sector in three main axes. They are designing and building satellites, monitoring, controlling and tracking satellites through ground stations and analyzing data and satellite images, and thirdly, scientific research activities in space science, applications and technologies, and fourthly, community activities that raise the level of societal awareness of the space sector, and finally local, regional and international cooperation to engage in activities A common space and facilitating the exchange of experiences, information and knowledge.

Dr. Al-Asiri praised the efforts made in preparing this report professionally by the commission’s employees, as it was praised by the representatives of the United Nations. The authority is to achieve the vision of the wise leadership, may God protect and preserve it, in making the Kingdom of Bahrain among the leading countries in the field of space by exploiting its science and technology and harnessing it for the benefit of achieving prosperity and development. Participation in this important meeting is also a start for many and varied participations in international forums during the coming period, God willing.”
