‘Squid Game’ wins two awards from the Hollywood Business Critics Association…

South Korean TV series ‘The Squid Game’ has won two awards at this year’s Hollywood Critics Association Awards for Television Business.

The association said Tuesday that “The Squid Game” was chosen as the best international series, and the series’ star Lee Jong-jae won the award for best actor in a drama series, at its annual awards ceremony.

Netflix’s Korean original drama competed for Best International Series against Korean drama “Pachinko”, Mexican comedy drama “Acapulco”, French thriller “Lupin”, Spanish action and crime drama “La Casa de Papel” and Mexican-American crime drama “Narcos: Mexico”. ‘.

In his acceptance speech, ‘Squid Game’ director Hwang Dong-hyuk said he is grateful for the honor and is currently working on the second season of the series.

“I think this drama has since crossed the boundaries of non-English drama in creating many historical moments,” he said, adding, “I hope I can deliver a better second season and share it with audiences and critics from all over the world.”

Lee won the Best Actor award, after competing against 7 other nominees, including Adam Scott for his role in “Severance”, Jason Bateman for his role in “Ozark” and Tom Ellis for his role in “Lucifer”. He was the only non-English speaking candidate among the candidates.

The squid win of two Hollywood Critics Association awards comes about a month before the Primetime Emmy Awards slated for September 12, when squid received 14 nominations, including for Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actor.

“The Squid Game” is the first Korean series to be shortlisted for the Prime Emmy Awards, one of the four major US awards for Dramatic Arts and Entertainment, and the first non-English language series to compete for the highest television ranking.
