Investing.com – United Kingdom stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday.
It ended trading in London down 0.48%.
The top performers today were GSK plc ( LON: ), which rose 7.54% or 104.60 points to end at 1,492.40. Rather, stocks Ocado group PLC ( LON: ) added 3.56% or 23.60 points to 685.80 and Ferguson PLC ( LON: ) added 3.43% or 336.00 points to 10,120.00 .
In terms of poor performance at the close of the day’s trade, Abrdn PLC (LON: ) declined 3.66% or 7.40 points to trade at 194.70 at the close. Arrow Ashted Group plc (LON:) declined 3.53% or 179.00 points to end at 4,889.00 while Rolls Royce Holdings plc (LON:) declined 3.17% or 2.96 points to 90.53.
The number of falling stocks outnumbered the number of stocks that closed higher in trade with 1212 compared to 552 on the London Stock Exchange, while 487 were unchanged.
Gold futures for February delivery rose 0.82%, or 14.60%, to settle at $1,797.00 an ounce. In other commodities, WTI crude oil contracts for January delivery fell 2.32%, or 1.72%, to settle at $72.53 a barrel, while Brent oil contracts for February fell 2.05%, or 1.63 points, to settle at $77.72 a barrel.
The GBP/USD pair added 0.76% to trade at 1.22 levels, while the EUR/GBP pair was unchanged 0.20% to reach 0.86 levels.
Dollar index futures were down 0.55% at 104.96.
