Investing.com – UK equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the , and sectors propelled shares lower.

Rather, stocks British American Tobacco PLC (LON: ) was up 1.72% or 48.50 points to end at 2,872.00. Diageo PLC (LON: ) was up 1.01% or 36.00 points at the end of the session at 3,599.00.
In terms of weak performance at the end of the day’s trade, the stock closed down Standard Chartered PLC (LON: ) declined 6.42% or 40.60 points to trade at 591.80 at the close. Arrow Ashted Group PLC (LON: ) was down 5.26% or 263.00 points to 4,737.00. Barclays Plc (LON: ) declined 4.21% or 5.88 points to end at 133.90.
Decliners outnumbered advancers with 1389 compared to 404 on the London Stock Exchange, while 460 were unchanged.

Gold futures for April delivery were down 0.87%, or 17.35%, at $1,978.55 an ounce. In other commodities trading, WTI crude oil futures for May delivery fell 0.66% or 0.46 points to settle at $69.50 a barrel, while Brent oil futures for May were down 0.88% or 0.67 points. and closed at $75.24 per barrel.
The GBP/USD pair lost 0.51% to trade at 1.22 levels, while the EUR/GBP pair was unchanged 0.14% at 0.88 levels.
Dollar index contracts traded up 0.59% at 102.81.
