Sygic Navigation received an interesting functional addition in the latest update. Using artificial intelligence, navigation can recognize traffic lights in real time. The app currently only detects speed limit information, which is useful when driving through areas where the speed limit is temporarily reduced. This job could theoretically save big money…
To take advantage of the mobile navigation feature, you must have Sygic Navigation and an active Premium+ subscription installed on your mobile phone. This can be had for Black Friday for 429 CZK per year, but basically you’ll be satisfied with a weekly trial, which is activated for free after the first installation of the app. Also pay attention to the app version, while we still have the current version 20.8.12 on our mobile, the brand recognition only works with version 20.9.x. Even if it still google apps whose App Store You do not have the required version, at least for Android you can use Install from APKmirror.
After launching the application, simply activate the tag recognition function via the main menu. Next, the phone should be placed in the car mount in the horizontal position. If you want to see tag recognition in action, you can stay on this screen, and if navigation is more important to you, you can quickly switch to the classic look of navigation. You can count on the speed limits in the lower right corner of the navigation.
And what are the disadvantages of Sygic’s solution? Recognition depends on the quality of your phone’s camera, as well as the ambient light. At night, the application, that is, without the help of street lighting and high beams, failed to recognize the signs. During the day, we again encountered boundary situations where the navigation recognized the forty on the main side, but after turning to the side or after crossing an intersection, the fifty did not return to the screen. The current recognition of brands using AI is extremely rare for mobile conditions, but they will want to do more.
