Martinez was injured in the team’s match against Sevilla
Manchester United coach Eric ten Hag spoke about his choices for the match against Nottingham Forest on Sunday in the thirty-first stage of the English Premier League.
The confrontation with Nottingham Forest comes after the match in which Manchester United drew at home to Sevilla, Spain, 2-2, on Thursday, in the first leg of the quarter-finals of the European League.
Raphael Varane was substituted between halves of yesterday’s match due to injury, and captain Harry Maguire replaced him.
In the last seconds of the match, Lisandro Martinez left the stadium, affected by his injury, and Manchester United completed the meeting with ten players.
In his press conference after the tie, Ten Hag said he was now focusing on the next confrontation with Nottingham Forest on Sunday, and it was certain that injuries would play a role in choosing his team.
And the coach began his speech by saying, “I am not thinking about the return match in Spain. The next match we have is against Forest, and of course that is what I am looking forward to now.”
He added, in statements published by Manchester United on its official website: “I have an idea of how to play in Sunday’s match, but of course we will see tomorrow when we talk to the medical team. We will know who can participate and who cannot, then we will have a plan and then we will bring a good team to pitch.”
He continued, “We are competing in three competitions, and if Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane are not available for Sunday, the other players must do their part.”
Asked on Friday if Ten Hag had an update on the condition of Martinez and Varane, the coach said: “Unfortunately, no.”
He added, “It hasn’t even been 24 hours, so I don’t have a clear diagnosis and so I can’t say it right now.”
Ten Hag had played down concerns that Martinez had suffered an Achilles heel injury in his comments after yesterday’s game, but was reticent on Friday when asked about the rumors that the player had suffered a metatarsal fracture.
Ten Hag said: I can’t say anything at the moment. When we have news, we’ll announce it to you… Let’s do a medical exam, assess the current situation, have a final diagnosis, and then we’ll announce the news.
