The 111th Anniversary of Naguib Mahfouz’s Birth: Exhibition, Conference and Meetings

As part of the activities celebrating the 111th anniversary of the birth of the writer Naguib Mahfouz (1911-2006), the Egyptian Minister of Culture, Nevin Al-Kilani, inaugurated the exhibition “Naguib Mahfouz between the Neighborhood, Job and Friends”, in the “Al-Hanager Art Center”, in the Opera Square in the center of the capital, Cairo.

Minister Al-Kilani said, “Naguib Mahfouz is a unique literary value, which placed Egyptian and Arabic literature in a global position,” adding that the celebration of his birthday will extend for a month and include a number of Egyptian governorates.

She indicated that “a large number of events will be organized, including seminars, workshops, and screenings of cinematic works that inspired the heroes of his novels.”

This exhibition includes in its first part a group of plastic art paintings, inspired by the worlds of Naguib Mahfouz, while the second part of it contains a number of documents related to the career of Naguib Mahfouz, from his graduation from the university until he reached retirement age, and related to his unique experience working in 3 ministries, It is knowledge, endowments, and national guidance. As for the third part of it, it includes dedications of the books of senior intellectuals and thinkers to him.

It is noteworthy that the program for celebrating the 111th anniversary of the birth of Naguib Mahfouz includes, in addition to the exhibition, many events, including a conference and a meeting entitled “The Descendants of Naguib Mahfouz”, which is held at the headquarters of his museum in the “Abu Dahab” hospice in Al-Azhar neighborhood, in which multiple generations of creators participate. In addition to a round table entitled “Annie Erno in the Rehab of Naguib Mahfouz”, and an art show entitled “Naguib Mahfouz’s Cinematic Journey… Movie Songs”.
