Home Secretary Soella Braverman has warned that people face “severe disruption” at UK airports over Christmas due to planned strikes by border staff, and said people should think carefully about their plans.
According to the BBC, staff at six airports will go on strike from December 23 to December 26 and from December 28 to New Year’s Eve.
The strikes come at a very busy time for travel and coincide with strikes by train and rail workers, and the first Christmas in 2019 for airlines to operate without widespread restrictions due to Covid-19.
The airline said two million passengers will arrive at the airports where the strikes will take place between December 23 and 31. Syria For flight analysis.
More than 10,000 flights will arrive at Heathrow Airport, London Gatwick, Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff and Glasgow during this period.
At the same time, about 1,000 members of the Public and Business Services Association (PCS) – including people working under passport control – went on strike after the Ministry of Home Affairs gave the workers a 2% pay rise instead of the 10% they had asked for.
“If they continue with those strikes, there will be undeniably severe disruption, which has caused a lot of people who have vacation plans. People who are planning to go abroad should think very carefully about their plans because it could be affected,” Braverman said.
“It is very unfortunate that they have taken this decision as they are striking at critical times before Christmas and New Year,” he added.
