Mercedes-Benz introduced the EQT concept. The design study with an electric motor heralds a successor to the Citan model.
It is this succession that deserves to be clarified. The current Citan will be “doubled” in the next generation to at least three cars with different names.
The Citan brand will retain the car that will be sold by the Mercedes-Benz Vans division, so it will be primarily an auxiliary machine, although it can be expected that in addition to the box truck, the Tourer version for passenger transportation will also arrive. Seitan will likely be available not only with internal combustion engines, but also as an electric vehicle.
The second difference is included in the Mercedes offering between classic passenger cars. This version will sell as a T-Class and will be a bit more “civilized” than the Citan, generally offering more luxury, better equipment, and cutting-edge technology. It will especially target private customers looking for a practical vehicle.
Finally, there will also be an EQT-branded Personal Electric T-version.
The same name was given to the German carmaker’s latest concept, which denotes what to expect from the Citan successor – especially electric. According to the manufacturer, in addition to the serial version of the EQT model, the study is close.
The concept is a pickup truck 4945 mm long, 1863 mm wide and 1,826 mm high, that will seat seven people. The design then introduces elements that we already know from other electric models of the EQ family. The car is particularly interesting for its distinctive front grille with narrow headlights, while the rear sections are styled in a minimalist style.
Practical features include sliding side doors or removable third-row seats. The interior is given luxurious, and we can find a lot of leather and shiny materials in it. Compared to modern Mercedes, the well-known large screens are missing, and the MBUX infotainment system is, of course, present.
We don’t yet know the details of the study technique, but we have known for a long time that the current Citan successor will be tied again to the Renault Kangoo. It also has a 75 kW electric version, a 44 kWh battery and a range of 265 km.
However, cooperation with Renault will also be reflected in versions with internal combustion engines, so we can expect to deploy a 1.3-liter petrol unit and 1.5-liter diesel for the new Citan and T-Class.
All derivatives of the new Personal Truck Star must be fully introduced this year.
