The European Union celebrates the Honorary Day at Expo 2020 Dubai

The European Union celebrated its Honorary Day at Expo 2020 Dubai, in the presence of Margaritis Scaenas, Vice-President of the European Commission, and a number of dignitaries at the local and international levels.

The celebration included high-end musical performances by world music figures, such as Vivaldi, Bach, Paganini, Schubert and Beethoven, in addition to a business forum in partnership with the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, which discussed policies that would contribute to the recovery of the global economy from the repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic and the opportunities available to the Union governments. and the GCC countries.

On the sidelines of the celebration, Najeeb Mohammed Al-Ali, Executive Director, Office of the Commissioner-General of Expo 2020 Dubai, said: “Diplomatic relations between the UAE and the European Union have been well-established since the establishment of the UAE Embassy in Brussels in 1976, based on common political and economic goals. The European Union is a strategic partner for growth in the region of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, and one of the largest major trade blocs in the UAE, where the volume of goods traded with the Union countries has reached 50 billion euros.”

And he added: “We are pleased to see the EU’s commitment to Expo 2020 Dubai, since its launch on October 1, and we look forward to EU programs and events over the six months of the international event, which focus on areas of mutual interest, including renewable energy, green economy and change. Climate change, including the New Green Agreement, which aims to promote research and innovation as a key driver towards achieving climate neutrality.

Margaritis Sciñas delivered the opening speech of the Business Forum, which is the fifth in a series of business forums dedicated to the European Union and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, with the aim of introducing steps and procedures for economic recovery and exploring business and trade opportunities between them.

Margaritis Schinas, Vice-President of the European Commission, said later yesterday evening: “We are delighted that all 27 EU countries will have a strong and influential presence at Expo 2020 Dubai, with dynamic pavilions, most of which I visited during the day, and which express our hopes for Restore our normal pre-pandemic conditions.”

The celebration included another set of events in different pavilions, where the Austrian pavilion held an exhibition entitled “European Union – United Nations Industrial Development Organization: A Partnership Built on Respect”, celebrating the existing cooperation between the European Union and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization from the perspective of Elisabetta Latanzio Eli, Ambassador The Goodwill Organization, in the presence of Wolfgang Sobotka, President of the Austrian National Council.

The Swedish pavilion hosted a panel discussion entitled “Transitioning from response to the climate crisis to risk management: New technologies for proactive humanitarian action”. Music pieces were played across the Expo 2020 Dubai site to mark the occasion. Also, the Portugal Pavilion organized a musical evening with famous guitarist Luisa Amaro, and the Romania Pavilion hosted a live classical music session under the theme “United through Classical Music”.

The symposium “Global Harmonies” was held at the Terra amphitheater, and dealt with music, arts and synergy, with the participation of Margaritis Schinas and many prominent names in the world of European music.
