Today, Sohag University organized the activities of the first scientific forum, which was organized by Students for Egypt in cooperation with the Technology Valley at the university, and in partnership with the Al-Azhar International Center for Forensic Astronomy and Space Sciences at the Islamic Research Academy, under the title “Astronomy and Space Technology towards Environmental and Climate Issues, a Legitimate Scientific Vision.” Under the patronage of the Grand Imam, Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Major General Tarek El-Feki, Governor of Sohag, Dr. Mostafa Abdel-Khaleq, President of the University, and Dr. Hassan Al-Noamani, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research and Student Leader for Egypt.
This came at the International Conference Center at the university’s new headquarters, and in the presence of Dr. Muhammad Nazir Ayyad, Secretary-General of the Islamic Research Academy, Dr. Muhammad Afifi al-Qusi, CEO of the Egyptian Space Agency, Anba Jeremiah, the Orthodox General Bishop and Assistant Secretary of the Egyptian Family House, and Dr. Muhammad al-Sherbiny, Vice President of Al-Azhar University, Dr. Hassan Salah Al-Saghir, Secretary General of the Council of Senior Scholars, the accountant Ashraf Al-Qadi, Secretary General of the University, Dr. Kamal Muhammad Talab, Director of the Valley of Science and Technology and the General Coordinator of the Forum, Muhammad Hassan, President of the University Students’ Union, and a group of sheikhs, male and female preachers, deans and deans of faculties and their agents, faculty members, and deputies Various ministries, university employees and students.
Mustafa Abdel-Khaleq, President of the University, said that the forum is one of the first scientific forums in Egyptian universities, and it comes within the framework of sustainable development goals and preparations to host the “COP 27” climate summit, which is an important step during the era of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi at the local, regional and international levels, to carry out The scientific, cultural, advocacy and awareness-raising role towards community issues, foremost of which are climate changes, to show the impact of the use of space technology towards climatic changes and the consequent atmospheric and cosmic phenomena and their impact on different times of worship around the globe.
At the beginning of his speech, Dr. Hassan Al-Noamani welcomed the conference members, guests and all attendees, and noted the importance of the conference and the axes it discusses related to the climate change crisis and its causes, and aims to show the link between religion and science and the support of religious scholars to experts in all fields, hoping that the conference will end with outputs that help preserve on the climate of the planet and the future of future generations.
In the same context, Dr. Hassan Salah al-Saghir spoke about that the conference embodies the Egyptian family, where the clergy are in solidarity with the men of science because there is a correlation between the legal ruling and the scientific data, where we ask a lot about the ruling of religion in the impact of cosmic phenomena on the different times of prayer, for example, Therefore, it is necessary to have scientific data in order to give fatwas an accurate legal ruling.
Dr. Muhammad Afifi al-Qusi said that the issue of climate change is a global issue because of its impact on human life and other creatures that inhabit the planet, so we must unite to confront those effects that harm the environment and human future, the most important of which is global warming and the emission of gases and fumes it causes And the main reason for it is the major industrial countries that have the upper hand in harming the global climate and destroying many areas with phenomena such as desertification, drought, and floods, stressing that Egypt is currently working on manufacturing a satellite to monitor and study climate changes and study their causes.
For his part, Dr. Muhammad Abu Zaid, the general coordinator of the Egyptian Family House, explained that the Egyptian political leadership has achieved many initiatives to improve the quality of life for the citizen, and directed building and investment in the human being to move forward in achieving progress and development, through orientalization of the future and facing the phenomena that affect his existence. Referring to the saying of Al-Faruq Omar Ibn Al-Khattab (Do not stop your children with your knowledge, for they were created for a time other than your time), so it is necessary to go to building the character and educating the Egyptian citizen and providing him with various sciences and technical and technological developments, in addition to making him aware of the consequences of climate change and the corruption it causes to the land and threaten the lives of contemporary For these phenomena and for future generations as well.
At the beginning of his speech, Anba Jeremiah congratulated the launch of the scientific conference that recognizes the interdependence of science and religion, and confirms the keenness of the state in all its categories to take care of the level of Egypt, because it is the jewel of the world and its beating heart, and it preserves the balance of the world, so it bears the banner of awareness of the dangers of contemporary climate changes and their impact on the world. Since it is the role of religion to educate people about the consequences of these changes, which are among the main causes of wrong human behavior, and its pollution to its surrounding environment and the destruction that it causes to what God created to serve him of plants and animals, as his actions caused a change in temperatures and the ensuing heat waves, fires. Forests, drought, global warming and the melting of polar ice, the receding water and its impact on agriculture, the thermal expansion of oceans and rivers, floods and tsunamis, which cause the destruction of the planet and affect human health, delay the development process and increase poverty rates, so we must join hands to preserve the world that God has entrusted us with .
Dr. Muhammad Nazeer Ayyad said that the forum that we gathered today aims to integrate religious sciences and natural and life sciences, within the framework of sustainable development goals, and to clarify the relationship of Islam to development and preservation of the components of life. If civilization is an interaction between man, the universe and time, Islam has made these elements foundations for the process of succession and the preservation of the earth and the prevention of all forms of corruption in it, so the survival of life on earth is linked to the existence of a sect that forbids corruption. In it, by emphasizing that all the goals of development and the preservation of the components of life were preceded by the Holy Qur’an and the purified Sunnah by calling for and establishing them. What was influenced by the nation’s scholars is that “wherever the people’s interest is found, then God’s law.”
He added that the relationship between the religious sciences and the natural and life sciences is an inseparable and synergistic relationship, for the purposes of Sharia and the interests considered at their “necessary, necessary and ameliorative” levels are sources for the care of the public interest, and within the scope of that responsibility, justice and equity in front of the environment are indispensable, and its basis is the management of natural resources and their distribution in equity because they It has been harnessed for everyone without exception, for animals, plants and humans. Therefore, environmental jurisprudence is based on a set of basic components, which in their entirety constitute an effective role in preserving the capabilities of the environment, which is a right for all generations.
Dr. Kamal Mohamed Talab indicated that the forum included several sessions that discussed a number of themes, including the role of astronomy and space technology in facing climate changes and achieving sustainable development goals, and the role of religions and divine messages towards preserving the environment, in addition to discussing the role of Egyptian and Arab youth to support countries’ initiatives towards Climate change, policies and legal procedures towards protecting the environment to counter climate change.
It is worth mentioning that a short documentary film was shown on human behavior and its impact on the climate, and on the sidelines of the conference, a book fair organized by Al-Azhar was opened as a gift to the university.
