ABU DHABI, 15th December, 2020 (WAM) — The International Swimming Federation (FINA) has commended the capital’s distinguished organizational preparations to host the 25-meter World Swimming Championships for short distances, “25 meters”, which will start tomorrow and continue until December 21, at the Etihad Arena on Yas Island, expressing the admiration of the family. This was announced at the press conference held by the organizing committee of the championship, in the presence of Aref Al Awani, Secretary General of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Dr. Hussein Al Musallam, President of the International Swimming Federation, Sultan Al Samahi, President of the UAE Swimming Federation, and Brent Nowicki, CEO of the International Swimming Federation.
The press conference was also attended by a group of world-class swimmers and stars of diving and open water swimming: Italian swimmer Giorgio Paltrinieri, who won four Olympic medals with his outstanding performance in open water and pool events, and American swimmer Abby Wetzel, the star of the relay race who won two Olympic medals in Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo , including the gold medal in the 2016 Olympic Games, as well as the Brazilian swimmer Ana Marcela, who is one of the best open water swimmers ever, and the gold-winning champion in the last Olympic Games, as well as the swimmer of our UAE national team Youssef Al Matrooshi, who participated in the Tokyo Olympics 2021.
For his part, Aref Al Awani, Secretary-General of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and Chairman of the Organizing Committee, expressed his thanks and appreciation to the International Swimming Federation, in appreciation of the partnership and its supportive role in Abu Dhabi’s hosting of many world swimming championships over the past period to the current stage, expressing his pride in the presence and participation of the world swimming family in the event.
