Some foreign media reported on Monday that Walmart will accept payments in Litecoins from October 1. Journalists relied on a press release sent to them via email, citing Doug McMillon, the company’s CEO.
Crypto enthusiasts were understandably quite happy, which saw the exchange rate rise from $171 (3,670 CZK) to $236 (5,070 CZK). In an instant, the value increased by nearly 40 percent.

Walmart denied the message
As fast as the growth was, it was very steep in just two hours. It turned out that the message was wrong.
The person who sent the press release could not even send the message again. Reuters reported that all messages sent were returned as undeliverable.
A Walmart spokesperson eventually confirmed to Reuters that the message was false.
The exchange rate immediately dropped from the mentioned maximum to practically the original value – to $ 176 (3780 CZK). On Tuesday morning, a virtual currency was trading for $180 (3,870 CZK).
