The long-awaited super sports car from Mercedes-AMG Project One has finally begun. It will arrive in 2022

The Mercedes-AMG One was presented to the world for the first time in the fall of 2017. However, complications with the development gradually delayed the start of its production.

The Mercedes-AMG division is At the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2017, it showed off its “covered formula”, the so-called Project One model. It was originally supposed to reach customers in 2019, but development problems have gradually delayed its arrival. However, next year we hope car customers will finally see it.

The automaker has confirmed that the Mercedes-AMG Project One will begin production sometime in mid-2022. Early customers, including Nico Rosberg and David Coulthard, will arrive at this special about five years after its official premiere.

AMG was troubled by developmental difficulties. Soon after the premiere, it became clear that adapting the technology originally intended for Formula 1 would not be easy. Even Mercedes-AMG workers admitted under the guise of anonymity that they underestimated the development.

The system, which combines a 1.6-liter six-cylinder fork with three electric motors and a turbocharged electric motor, has had problems meeting emissions compliance, according to behind-the-scenes reports. Therefore, the car had to have at least two particulate filters. The idle speed also had to be reduced significantly, from about 5,000 laps of the race version to 1,200 laps.

Moreover, reliability has also proven to be a weak point. The six small cylinders proved to be very fragile. He simply was not able to go thousands of kilometers, as would be expected from a production car. What a difference from Formula 1, which does not find such a fraction of kilometers per season and can replace the drive unit.

Despite the significant delay, the Mercedes-AMG Project One will retain the character presented at the premiere. The car has been described as a covered formula for regular roads, thanks to the propulsion system derived from it in Formula 1 cars. In the same way, the appearance will be practically preserved, except for minor modifications in aerodynamics.

In the meantime, we will wait for confirmation of driving skills. In any case, in 2017, the manufacturer claimed that the Mercedes-AMG Project One will provide a total output of more than 740 kW (1,000 hp), which will allow the car to accelerate from 0-200 km / h in less than six seconds. And driving the car at speeds of more than 350 km / h. Thanks to the electric motors, the car should be able to travel about 25 kilometers with only electricity.

To maintain exclusivity, the company expects to produce only 275 pieces of the first project, for which customers paid 2.27 million euros, or about 57.6 million kroner.
